Very few playwrights have been recognized for developing a new artistic genre; however Bertolt Brecht changed

the poetic face of Germany. With the use of the Verfremdungseffekt and epishe Theatre, along with many other influences and creations, Brechtian Theatre became a groundbreaking response to mainstream theatre, as well as a new challenge for the actors on stage. Since his name became adjectival, the study of his life and especially his political beliefs is necessary in order to understand what Brechtian Theatre is.
