CARMEN CHU ASSESSOR-RECORDER

SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE OF THE ASSESSOR-RECORDER

LETTER TO NEIGHBORS

Beginning on February 18, San Francisco business owners will be offered a more convenient way to file their 571-L Business Property Statement with the Office of the Assessor-Recorder. Filing the property statement is how businesses report the taxable business property they own (machinery, equipment, fixtures, etc.) and is required by State law. By using the online portal (www.sfassessor.org/file), business owners will be able to quickly and securely file their 571-L form via the internet. Remember, E-Filing is an on-line application, where no new software is needed and no downloading is necessary. Offering the option to e-File is part of the Departments on-going efforts to improve convenience to taxpayers while reducing costs like printing costs. Since some business owners may not have access to internet at their office or home, we have set-up computer terminals at our two sites: 1) Business Personal Property Division located at 1155 Market Street, 5th Floor, and 2) our office at City Hall, Room 190. You can also access one of the many public computers available across the city in our public libraries (a full list of libraries can be found by visiting wwwsfpl.org or calling 415-557-4400). We are also offering workshops on how to file a 571L form in March and have posted an online manual (www.sfassessor.org/manual) as an additional resource. If you are interested in attending a workshop, or have any questions, please call us at (415) 554-5531 or email askbpp@sfgov.org. Sincerely,

Carmen Assessor-Recorder
