Information on Article 33 of the REACH Regulation with regard to STIHL and VIKING products

Pursuant to Article 33 of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), any supplier of an article containing one or more substances of very high concern in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) is subject to specific duties to communicate information. This means such supplier shall provide the recipient of the article with the name of that substance and with sufficient information, available to the supplier, to allow safe use of the article. Substances which have been identified as being of very high concern are included in the candidate list1 by the European Chemicals Agency ECHA. STIHL and VIKING are aware of their legal duties and closely track updates to the candidate list and amendments of the relevant laws. Based on a critical evaluation of raw materials and components, and intensive communication with their suppliers, STIHL and VIKING fulfil the statutory requirements that result for their products from Article 33 of REACH. STIHL and VIKING power saws, brush-cutters, cut-off machines, lawn-mowers, motor hoes, shredders and other power tools do not contain more than 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) of a substance of very high concern, and as a result are not subject to the duty to communicate information pursuant to Article 33 of REACH. Furthermore, STIHL and VIKING strictly observe the restrictions specified in Annex XVII REACH on the manufacture, placing on the market and use of certain dangerous substances, mixtures and articles.
