Balance and Pipette

By Group 1

Balance
A laboratory balance is a device used to measure the mass of an object.

Kinds of Balance

Platform balance

Analytical Balance

Triple Beam Balance

Platform Balance
Is a form of equal-arm balance in which two flat platforms are attached to the top side of the beam, one at each end.

Triple Beam Balance

It is commonly used in the laboratory to determine the mass of objects. It has a beam which is supported by a fulcrum. On one side is a pan on which the object is placed. On the other side, the beam is split into three parallel beams , each supporting one weight.

Analytical Balance
Is used to measure mass to a high degree of precision and accuracy. It is often found in a laboratory setting and is used only with the most meticulous of measurements.

Pipette
a small piece of apparatus which typically consists of a narrow tube into which fluid is drawn by suction (as for dispensing or measurement) and retained by closing the upper end

Types of Pipettes
Glass Pipette
Positive Displacement Pipette

Air Displacement Pipette

Glass Pipette
Are volumetric pieces of glass calibrated to deliver a specific volume of liquid.

Air Displacement Pipette

Air displacement pipettes are pipettes that have a piston in a cylinder or capillary tube that moves to the appropriate position once the volume is set.

Positive Displacement Pipette

Positive displacement pipettes are also pipettes that have a piston in a cylinder or capillary tube that moves to the appropriate position once the volume is set.
