Examination Techniques

You must answer 2 questions in 1 hour. Each question is worth 24 marks, so you should spend about 1 minute per mark. Parts (d) and (e) are worth the most marks, so ensure you have enough time to answer these in detail.

Part (a) questions = short-answer knowledge questions, often asking for meaning of key words. 1mark. Part (b) questions = short-answer knowledge questions, may require a 1 or 2 sentence answer. 2 marks. Part (c) questions = may ask for 3 pieces of information or ask for a description. 3 marks.

Part (d) questions = These are understanding questions and usually begin with the word explain. 6 marks. Why means you should use the word because and give reasons. How means you should connect ideas, and explain teachings.

Part (e) Questions = Evaluation Skills. 12 marks. In this question, only, you

can include your own views and discuss them. Do refer to the statement in your first sentence and in each paragraph argue whether people with different beliefs would agree or disagree with the statement. Use 5 short paragraphs to gain a L4 mark (10-12). 1st paragraph: Christian view(s), reasons & examples/evidence. 2nd paragraph: Different view, reasons & examples/evidence (could be an atheist view). 3rd paragraph: Another view, reasons & examples/evidence (could be another religious view). 4th paragraph: Personal view, reasons & examples. 5th paragraph: Conclusion
