MFC8950DW, MFC8950DWT November 27, 2013 SYMPTOMS: No power No LED activity Blank display No fan activity POSSIBLE CAUSE: Over-voltage damaged the Main PCB, Low Voltage Power Supply (LVPS) Unit, and/or Control Panel.
RECOMMENDATION: Perform the following steps to determine which part(s) need to be replaced. 1. Confirm the issue by first plugging the machine into a working outlet and then power the machine on using the switch on the right side. 2. Confirm the unit has no power versus having a display failure by verifying all of the following are true: There should be no LED activity. The display has no activity or lighting There is no air movement from the fan vent on the right side. There is no mechanical movement when powered on. 3. If the machine has been determined to have No Power, switch off the power and unplug the unit. 4. Remove the left cover according to the disassembly instructions in the service manual. 5. Check the output voltages from the LVPS: a. b. Plug the machine into a working outlet and then power the machine on using the switch on the right side. Measure the output voltage from the LVPS at pins 2, 3, and 4 on CN5 on the main PCB. All 3 pins should have approximately +24VDC. See FIG 1 and FIG 2.

c. MFC8950DW, MFC8950DWT November 27, 2013 If output voltage from the LVPS is normal, then proceed to the next step. If output voltage from the LVPS is not normal, then replace the LVPS.

FIG 2 6. Check voltages to and from the control panel: a. Measure voltages at pins 3, 6, and 8 on connector CN9 on the main PCB. Pin 8 should have approximately +24VDC. Pin 3 and 6 should have approximately +3.3VDC. See FIG 3 and FIG 4. If all 3 voltages are normal, replace the Main PCB. If pins 8 or 3 have 0VDC, replace the Main PCB. If pin 6 has 0VDC, replace the Panel PCB.
