After long-term storage, lithium batteries may experience a delay effect where they are unable to provide power when first connected. This is caused by a barrier building up inside the battery that increases its internal resistance during storage. To overcome this, the battery needs to be activated by turning it on until the device powers on. The barrier effect increases if the battery is stored in warm conditions, so batteries should be kept below 25°C in a cool, dark place like a drawer. Regular use of the device prevents issues from the charger heating the storage area on the back of the unit. Information about the delay effect should be shared with shipping companies using the radios.

SERVICE INFORMATION S.P. RADIO A/S - AALBORG - DANMARK PAGE 1
MARCH 1996 NUMBER 164A LITHIUM BATTERIES SP3905 With this Service Information, we draw your attention to the fact that, after long-time storage, lithium batteries may exercise a so-called delay effect, which renders it extremely difficult if not impossible to draw power from the battery when it is first connected after storage. The reason to this delay effect is that, throughout the storage period, a barrier is built in the battery in- creasing its inner resistance. This barrier can be destroyed by exposing the battery to an adequate dis- charge. If you come across a battery that does not supply power, do as follows: Activate the ON/OFF button until the VHF activates. Please note that batteries with delay effect might give a longer switch-on-time. It has been noted that the build up of the before-mentioned barrier is considerable increased if the bat- tery is stored warmly, and therefore we strongly recommend that the lithium batteries are stored at tem- peratures below 25C, for instance in a cupboard or a drawer where they are protected from direct sun- light. If you employ your SP3100 regularly, the storage position on the back of the SP3911 should not be used as heat is generated by the charger when charging. We ask you to please pass on the above information to those shipping companies that you know have SAILOR SP3110 with lithium batteries. If you have any questions in connection to the above, please do not hesitate to contact the Service De- partment at S.P. Radio A/S. Kind Regards S.P. Radio A/S Peter Andersen Service Manager S.P.
