Determination of Nitrite Apparatus: Volumetric Flask, burette, pipette flask, breaker.

Procedure: (a) The standardization of KMNO4 solution is to be done as before. (b) Weigh out accurately about 1.1 gm of sodium nitrite, disolve it into a cold water, and dilute to 250 ml in 250 ml volumetric flask by shaking it continuously .Pour nitrite solution in the burette. Measure out 25ml of Std. 0.02M KMnO4 solution into a 500ml flask add 25 ml of 0.5M sulphuric acid and heat it to 40C. Add nitrite solution from the burette slowly and with constant stirring until the permanganate solution is just decolorized. [at the end, the solution must be added slowly as the reaction is sluggish]. OBSERVATION: Table: For determining amount of nitrite present. No. of Obs.
