Dear Governor Kitzhaber, With sincere regret, I submit my resignation from the Oregon Arts Commission to protest the process used in the termination of Ms. Christine DArcy, former Executive Director of the Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Cultural Trust. I join Dr. Henry Sayre, Bend; Mr. Royal Nebeker, Astoria; Dr. Roger Hull, Salem; and Dr. Maurizio Valerio, Union; former commissioners who have all recently resigned. I strongly disagree that Ms. DArcys termination was warranted but I recognize that any evaluation of an executive directors performance can be disputed. My concern is board governance. It appears that a few people, including the Oregon Arts Commission chair, were actively involved in this termination. Unfortunately, this action occurred without notice to or consultation with the commission. As a member of the OAC for almost eight years and chair for two, it has been an honor to have served the citizens of Oregon and to have worked with a most professional and dedicated staff.
