Programme Outline
O Introduction to photography and

preparation to HDB competition 17th Feb O How a digital camera works and Exposure Controls 3rd March O Composition 17th March ( Session 1 ) O Outing Session 17th March ( Session 2 )

Types Of Camera
O Poloroid Camera O Digital Camera O Large Format Camera Eg: View

Camera ( shift and tilt camera ) O Medium Format Camera O Professional Camera- Eg: Single Lens Reflex (SLR) O Pro-sumer SLR: ProfessionalConsumer

Difference between film and digital images

Film Grains Colour Dyes Permanent Image Digital Pixels Light Sensors Digital Image

Film
O Grains ( tiny particles of silver

highlights ) O Colour Dyes ( 3 layer colour pigment )

3 Layer Colour For Film

Digital
O Pixel ( tiny light sensitive cells ) O Light sensors ( each light cell can

have 1 colour filter-red, blue, green. Eg: the camera with 8M 8 million cells will only capture 1 colour at one instant, the rest of the colour of the surrounding is generated by the processor in the camera to give the colour )

Color Filter Array Sensor

At any one time, the sensor can only measure a colour.

Most of the time, the colour is green. In digital photography, only 30% of true colour.

Types Of Lenes
O Normal lens O Wide angle lens

O Telephoto Lens
O Teleconverter Lens O Distortion Lens Eg: fish eye

lens.

Normal Lens
O Also known as standard lens. O When the focal length of a lens is

close to the diagonal measurement of the film format, the lens is said to be normal lens. O Or we can say close to the magnification of the human eye. O Focal length: 18-55 mm

less than normal lens ) O Images look smaller. O Focal length: 17-35mm

Optical Zoom
O Magnify distant object with lens. O When choosing a camera, look out for

optical zoom instead of digital zoom. O Digital zoom is simply magnifying part of the object on the image sensor. O In a nut shell, it means using computer to do enlargements.
