    Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian artist born in 1884 in Livorno, Italy, where he lived and began drawing and painting from a young age. In 1906, he moved to Paris where he lived a simple life focused on painting while drinking heavily. Many of his early drawings were destroyed. Modigliani befriended artists like Picasso and Diego Rivera in Paris but struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. He died in 1920 at the age of 35 from tubercular meningitis exacerbated by his drinking, and his pregnant wife Jeanne threw herself out a window and died a few days later in a tragic double suicide.
