General Information About Caveat Emptor Extra Credit Project

Title/Information Title: Caveat Emptor Grade: 6th Subject: Mathematics Common Core Standards CCGPS.M.6.RP.A.3 - Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. o CCGPS.M.6.RP.A.3c Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent. o CCGPS.M.6.RP.A.3d Use ratio reasoning to convert measurement units; manipulate and transform units appropriately when multiplying or dividing quantities. Essential Question What strategies and conventions must I know in order to complete conversions between two currencies? Learning Objective By the end of the lesson/project, students will be able to describe, explain, connect, and differentiate between a country of their choice and the United States currencies and ways of living. Students will demonstrate mastery by creating a detailed presentation in which they will share with the class. Students will be evaluated on by an associated rubric and must earn a grade of at least 70% to demonstrate mastery.. Learning Goals Students will practice standards by converting between two currencies and identifying what percentage of their budget has been spent. Students will be able to share at least five interesting things that they learned about another culture. Students will be able to create a list of things that they learned about other cultures based on the presentations of others.
