Do you think something is hunting the boys? If so, what is it?

If not, explain why the boys occasionally feel "hunted".

Snakes, a common phobia, may be the beastie or cause of anxiety for the boys. The boys witnessed a squealing, angry pig in the first chapter. We know that pigs live on the island, and may intimidate some of the boys.

FEAR
The boys may be experiencing fear or desolation. This could be the cause of their hunted anxieties.

The boys assume they are on the island alone. They may be feeling hunted by each other in the struggle for power, or there may be other individuals on the island.

There may be some sort of monster, or beast, on the island that we do not know about.
