VIA HAND-DELIVERY
We have received complaints on our hotline as well as elsewhere alleging that you may be using your state
legislative staff to perform functions in support of your campaign for Congress. Obviously, if true, this would
be a violation of state law and represent a serious abuse oftaxpayer dollars and resources.
So that we can determine whether these allegations have any merit, we ask that you provide us with the
following information, dating from the time you announced your Exploratory Committee for Congress through
the present:
• Your office policies regarding vacation, paid time off, and leaves of absence;
• Your office policies regarding use of taxpayer-provided computers, and employee use of e-mail and the
Internet;
• Your office policies regarding telecommuting or otherwise allowing employees to work from a location
other than the taxpayer-provided office located in the Slate Capitol:
• The employment status of Ian Russell, who is or has been employed by your state office as a legislative
assistant:
• Whether Mr. Russell is being compensated by the State of Nebraska, Tom White for Congress,
Nebraska Democratic Party, or some other organization or entity with which you are coordinating or
involved;
• The hours and days worked by Ian Russell in your legislative office and your campaign.
It is our sincere hope that you can provide us with a response to these inquiries on or before 5:00 p.m..
Oclober 6. 2009. Should you choose not to respond, or not respond in a complete and forthright manner,
unfortunately we will have no choice to conclude that the allegations have merit.
