STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP)

Buchi Rotary Evaporator with V700 Vacuum pump

1. Setup Switch on the water bath and set to desired temperature (standard 45oC) Turn on water for the condenser, the motor, the vacuum control panel and make sure that tap at the top of the condenser is closed. Using the Vacuum control, set the desired pressure: 1. Press P. Set. button 2. Adjust the pressure using the knob 3. Press OK button

Operating *Do not use flasks that appear to be cracked* Attach flask to the rotary evaporator using appropriate quickfit adaptor and clip Press the start button on the vacuum control panel to place the system under vacuum Begin rotating the flask slowly, using the lower of the two knobs on the machine Lower the flask into the water bath and

Stopping When the solvent has all been removed, raise the flask out of the water bath and stop the rotation Press the Stop button and wait for the pressure to return to atmospheric (open tap to do this quickly) Unclip and remove the flask from the rotary evaporator and turn the water off for the condenser *If a bath temperature other than 45oC has been used, reset the bath temperature to the standard* When the receiver flask is full, unscrew and empty into the appropriate waste bottle *Do not mix halogenated and non-halogenated solvents in the receiver flask*
