Winged One 2013 Single Classroom Use
First Session: Start with anchor charts. Have students brainstorm the way things feel, sound, look,
smell, taste, and have a category for other describing words. Sometimes, I use just a few of the
categories. Students brainstorm their ideas on sticky notes (with a picture and a word), and
attach them to the chart. You should have a good variety of adjectives!

Second Session: Students choose one or more sticky notes from the chart. (You could differentiate based
on student need.) The notes do not have to be the same ones they added to the chart. They enjoy using
words from their classmates. Students use the word to describe things (the nouns). They draw and label
their ideas, using arrows to indicate the connection. We talk about how the adjective describes the noun.
These also make a fun bulletin board display!
