While rabbit polyclonal antibodies have been used for many years, Epitomics has developed a unique and

proprietary method for making monoclonal antibodies using rabbits rather than the conventional method of starting with mice (Figure 1).

Figure 1. General procedure Epitomics uses for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies.

Immunize Rabbit

Rabbit Fusion Partner cells (plasmacytoma)

Advantages of Rabbit Monoclonal Antibodies

High specificity and affinity Superior response to small antigens/epitopes Generate monoclonal antibodies to mouse antigens Excellent results with formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissues Only technology available for making true rabbit-rabbit hybridomas
Isolate B cells

Fusion to generate hybridoma cells

In the last four years, Epitomics has developed custom rabbit monoclonal antibodies (RabMAbs) for customers in the pharmaceutical, biotech and academic communities. The service is broekn into three distinct phases (Table 1). The customer is involved with the development at each phase to ensure that an antibody with the specific characteristics that they may be looking for will be developed.

Screen hybridomas for specific antigen recognition Select antigen specific hybridoma Antibody Characterization (Western, IHC, ICC, Flow etc.)

Use specific hybridoma to produce Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody in bioreactor
