Day Book

Unit: Nº 5 “Food and Drink”

Activities: Wordsearch and flashcards with There is/are

Date: August 27th, 2009

Time: 8:00 o’clock

Objective:

Make the two activities that we have already prepared to apply them on 5º Grade B. In
other to evaluate their pronunciation with the phonemes that we thought for them have
been the most difficult to articulate.

Body:

Students were very enthusiastic with both activities. They paid attention to the
instructions and their behavior was really good inside of the classroom. They ask for
participation, they just wanted to say the words and sentences louder. They did not
feel scared at all; on the contrary, they were very relaxed.

After Miss Alvarado said the commands for the activities, students began doing the first
task that it was the wordsearch. Pupils had to find 10 words about food and drink in it.
Some children looked the words up and circled them with colors, others kids painted
the words founded. After the words were founded, Miss Alvarado asked the students
orally one by one, which were the words in the wordsearch. They seemed happy
enough doing what they were doing.

On second activity, we gave to the students a handout to complete several exercises

using there is and there are. After this activity, Miss Alvarado showed them different
flashcards in other to practice which nouns go with there is and which ones go with
there are. According to the images, students had to say a sentence using the object on
the flashcards and also making use of there is or there are. This activity was really fun
because children wanted to participate and they raised their hands to be chosen. Some
kids helped to their pairs when they did not know how to answer.

At the end of the activities we had noticed that students and the teacher felt
comfortable with the tasks. Children felt very satisfy doing these activities and also we
perceived that their pronunciation had improved in comparison with our first visit. We
gave to the teacher a rubric so she could evaluate both activities. Her evaluation was
very satisfactory and gave us some advices to improve the next tasks.

Reflection:

During our activities we felt very good because students achieved our goal. On the
other hand, in both activities, we had noticed that students did not receive the
appropriate reinforcement from the teacher.
