Standard 5: Ethical Leadership An educational leader promotes the success of all students by acting with integrity, fairness and

in an ethical manner. a) Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior b) Demonstrates values, beliefs, and attitudes that will inspire others to higher levels of performance c) Fosters and maintains caring, professional relationships with staff d) Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to diversity in the school community e) Demonstrates respect for divergent opinions This is one of the most difficult ISSLs to document because you must show that you can walk the walk. Everyone knows what an ethical leader looks like; this is a person we can depend on, respect immensely, and turn to in times of doubt or adversity. This person encourages others to be the best person they can be, and shows respect for people who may not always be on their side. Throughout my internship, I have encountered a few challenging times where staff members were not too excited to begin a new initiative with me. However, I needed these people to support me and the direction, albeit shaky at some times. After meetings, I would speak with people who I knew would offer constructive feedback, and I would use this time as a way of reflecting on what I could do better next time. The artifact I am including would be some links to the BSAT meetings (Building Student Achievement Team) minutes. When we began the schools intervention day, it was very popular among students and teachers. However, issues began to arise because students depended on the day. Teachers were able to voice their concerns about the day, and that allowed us to change the way we implanted this day. If I was resistant to these ideas, the staffs attitude toward this day could be damaged, and its overall effectiveness could wan. I am grateful for the ideas and suggestions the staff gave because that allowed us to change the way we held the intervention day and target students who need the most support. In order to support the opinions of others, each BSAT meeting included norms we would follow to ensure respect was given, in relation to time and person.
