Yin Hang, Kwok ENGL 1102 -100 Ms. Ingram 24 February 2014 Mid Term When it comes to talk about my grade in ENGL1102, I hope I can get B or better in this semester. It is because I tried my best in each assignment (essays, blog and RRL), understanding the tools and these key concepts. As the syllabus said e-Portfolio is very important in this course and participation may change my grade. From the beginning of spring semester to now, I have not absent in this class in my memory and all assignments I submitted in time. I think I can make the e-portfolio complete and try to master these key concepts. For these key concepts, the critical thinking is really hard to master. It is because this concept can be improved by read more books and discusses more with classmates. But I am good in making connections and responsibility for my own learning. For making connections, I tried to making any connections in my writing and assignments. I tried to make my essay fluidly and keep connect with different paragraphs. In assignments, I try to keep the connection between assignments and make them related together. For responsibility for my own learning, I try to read some references and reading assignments before I write these assignments and submit assignment in time. I try to find some problems and questions that stop my learning in writing. I find the major problem in writing is that I lack of writing skills and sense of everything. I try to read some books with teaching writing skills and watch news to improve this problem. I chose Cameron Johannesens e-portfolio. The reason I chose this e-portfolio essay because this is the shortest e-portfolio essay in examples and she used 3 tools obviously. She did well in Pathos in her essay. In essay, she tries to explain the writing style between high school and college. The difference make she feel confuse to write in college after finished her high literacy narrative. Also, she takes advantage of pathos to explain her feeling in writing and study habits in order to draw readers attraction. For Ethos, she tries to use some people in her

experience in nursing house and high school. She explained these people how to change her learning style, writing and the aspect of things. The old women and old men in her high school narrative are not only draw readers attraction, but also make a connection to her experience. With logos, she used her SAT writing prompt experience to prove the difference between high school and college writing class. The fact she used leading readers to her writing world and experience that she used to and making an image to her writing environment. For multi-modal, she used Linguistic, visual and spatial in her writing. First she used the image of SAT writing to lead readers enter her writing world. The paragraph she used in essay makes her essay give an idea to readers that what she going to write. This e-portfolio is really successful to draw readers attraction and her writing skills make her essay interesting. I think this essay fulfill its purpose and explain well in her first semester in college. I think she deserve A grade. My main inquiry question is researching the reason to push people having an American dream. The reason pushes me to do this topic because I am wondering these new incoming people to America, and what they feel. Also I am new to America. I would like to find something relate to me. It is not only helping me to know more what I have to face in America, but also it makes a connection in my assignments in spring semester. In addition, American dream is an old term but America dream is changing by time. I hope my research paper can be interesting and draw my classmate attraction.
