10. Ladies, the Women's Ministry is inviting all ladies to join us for International Day of Prayer on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 9:00-11:00 a.m. We will commence with a prayer breakfast potluck in the Fellowship Hall and continue in the Sanctuary with more prayers, testimonies and music. Please come let us grow together in community as we serve each other.

11. If you are or your friends are over 55, you are invited to join our Golden Agers. We are planning a mall walk at Westmount mall on Sunday, March 9th, at 10 AM (Daylight Saving Time) sharp at the Sears inside main door. The mall has a secure area for coats and boots or you may choose to park underground and lock your coat in your car. This is a great opportunity to visit while walking in a safe and warm environment. This could become a regular activity if there is enough interest, and we could try other malls as well. Please see Don Topper or any member of the Senior's Ministry for more information. 12. MOVIE NIGHT! FREE screening of Hell and Mr.Fudge March 8th at 7 pm. Babysitting available. Refreshments will be served after the movie. Donations will be accepted with proceeds going to benefit the Church School. The movie is based on a true story; a little story about a big lie. Edward Fudge, a young Bible-belt preacher, gets a surprise visit from an eccentric stranger who has a bizarre request. He wants Fudge to investigate Hell. Son of a respected church leader known for his conservative religious views, Edward is confident that whatever the Bible really teaches is right. Trained in biblical languages and theology, he finds the proposal intriguing. He agrees to take it on, not knowing where it will lead. He dedicates a year of his life to a systematic study of Hell - and his life will never be the same again. You dont want to miss this learning opportunity. 13. School Constituency meeting March 29th at 7 pm. A.C.E.S of London calls all members of three constituent churches to the annual meeting, reporting on school progress, and development plans. This meeting is for all members, donors and parents will take place at 805 Shelborne Street, London (South) Seventh-day Adventist Church. . Birthday Wishes for February

February African American History month

During this month we were reminded in many ways through the media and social events about the significance and importance of recognizing the Black history today. As I reflect on things I learned this month, I want to share a few facts: February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass. The first week long commemorative celebration was held in 1926, as Negro History Week. It was not until the civil rights movement in 1960s that it became the Black History Month, unofficially, until in 1976 when President Gerald R. Ford made an official declaration. In 1996, President Bill Clintons Proclamation 6863 renamed the effort as the "National African American History Month," and it is the proper official name today. Each year has a theme. Last year, 2013 it was the commemoration of 150th anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation In1863, and 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. This year, 2014, the theme continues: Civil Rights in America. The celebrations take place also in Canada. Two commemorative stamps were produced for circulation this year in Canada (purchase and order these as you do your mailing to build awareness). This year is also 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. Black Canadians served in both these conflicts. During the First World War black Canadians were recruited for the No. 2 Construction Battalion. It was the first all-black regiment raised in Canada. Years later, despite many barriers to their participation, including restrictive recruitment policies that continued into the Second World War, thousands of black Canadians persevered and served both at home and overseas in a wider variety of roles than had previously been the case. An interesting historical fact came to light recently. A Canadian, Ontario born (1879) missionary, Arthur Asa Carscallen, was preaching the Gospel in 1906 in Kenya, Africa, after finishing Newbold College in England. He had mastered the Luo language and wrote the first grammar book. One of the first students/disciples was a 9-year old boy, who attended the boarding school on the shore of Lake Victoria, by the name Onyango Obama. Much of his family followed the lead and became Seventh-day Adventists. He was the grandfather of the current, 44th president of the USA.
