Why do some organisms have DNA while others have RNA.! !

By Austin Willix

Structure of DNA! ! Jimmy the DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid and is one of the two types of nucleic acid found in our cells. Jimmy the DNA is double stranded and has two strands. A deoxyribose polymer composes the backbone of the DNA. The two DNA strands are anti parallel. The two strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between complementary bases. That was some of the things that make up the structure of Jimmy the DNA and how they work. The DNA backbone is a polymer with an alternating sugar-phosphate sequence. The deoxyribose sugars are joined at both the 3'-hydroxyl and 5'-hydroxyl groups to phosphate groups in ester links, also known as "phosphodiester" bonds.

Structure of RNA! ! Ronny the RNA Ribonucleic acid is a ubiquitous family of large biological molecules that perform multiple vital roles in the coding, decoding, regulation, and expression of genes. Like DNA, RNA is assembled as a chain of nucleotides, but is usually single-stranded. Cellular organisms use messenger RNA to convey genetic information (often notated using the letters G, A, U, and C for the nucleotides guanine, adenine, uracil and cytosine) that directs synthesis of specic proteins, while many viruses encode their genetic information using an RNA genome.

DNA is a polymer. The monomer units of DNA are nucleotides, and the polymer is known as a "polynucleotide." Each nucleotide consists of a 5-carbon sugar (deoxyribose), a nitrogen containing base attached to the sugar, and a phosphate group. There are four different types of nucleotides found in DNA, differing only in the nitrogenous base. The four nucleotides are given one letter abbreviations as shorthand for the four bases. ! ! ! A is for adenine ! ! ! G is for guanine ! ! ! C is for cytosine ! ! ! T is for thymine

Simularities And Difrences The main difference between DNA and RNA is the sugar present in the molecules. While the sugar present in an RNA molecule is ribose, the sugar present in a molecule of DNA is deoxyribose. Deoxyribose is the same as ribose, except that the former has one more OH.DNA does not usually exist as a single molecule, but instead as a tightlyassociated pair of molecules. These two long strands entwine like vines, in the shape of a double helix. This arrangement of DNA strands is called antiparallel.
