Antigua and Barbuda SOPs-A review and improvement of the TWFP process

Keithley Meade Director, Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services ITP-Hawaii 2011 Training Workshop Honolulu, Hawaii 22 Aug-2 Sept, 2011

Background
Following the Joint CARIBE Wave 2011 and

LANTEX 2011 exercise on March 23rd 2011, it became obvious that as the Tsunami Warning Focal Point(TWFP), only a few members of staff were familiar with the existing SOPs. In a real situation, much time would have been lost because of such SOP unfamiliarity The idea is to bring an IT solution to the problem in an attempt to make using the SOPs easier and more efficient

Objective
To ensure that existing SOPs can be applied and that

the TWFP will execute in a reliable and efficient manner To develop such a system which, if successful, can be expanded to other parts of the system

Conclusion
Even as we develop the SOPs, we need to look for

areas where there is like to be a breakdown . Strengthening the TWFP process as a first point of contact is a necessary ingredient This is not a substitute for not knowing the SOPs but an easy workable solution would most likely lead to a better result This is a very preliminary prototype and a more general solution will be explored.
