DIFFICULTIES IN APPLYING SCIENTIFIC METHOD TO MARKETING RESEARCH

Role of investigation Inaccuracy of measuring instrument Influence of measurement Pressure of time-frame Testing Hypothesis Complexity of the subject

1. ROLE OF INVESIGATION

Organizations are client of researcher. Sometimes the investigator tries to fit the results which are readily acceptable to client. This is possible when the investigator manipulates the data or does not conduct an exhaustive study.

2. INACCURACY OF MEASURING INSTRUMENT

Inaccuracy of measurement separate Scientific and unscientific Method. Since human beings are participants, invariably creeps in. most of the information obtained from the respondent is qualitative in nature.

3. INFLUENCE IN MEASUREMENT
In physical science, the researcher can repeat an experiment any time to get the same results. This is not in case with Marketing Research. When a respondent realizes that he is being measured, his response and behavior undergoes a change. Because, human reaction change quickly.

4. TIME PRESSURE
Marketing Research must be conduct and completed within a given time-span. If more time is consumed in conducting the research, competitors might enter and capture the market.

5. TESTING OF HYPOTHESIS
Any Hypothesis in Marketing Research must be tested. Thus, experimentation has to be resorted to. In Marketing Research, it is almost impractical to carryout experiment due to many factors which come in the way.

6. COMPLEXITY OF THE SUBJECT

The subject becomes very complex, due to the fact that it is human being, who interacts with the researcher. Human reaction varies from time to time. Different individual react differently for a given stimuli.
