Diversity Open House: An Invitation to All Law & Social Work Students

The Urban Justice Centers Safety Net Project, Mental Health Project, Veterans Advocacy Project, and Domestic Violence Project welcome 1L and 2L law students and graduate social work students to attend a networking open house for summer and fall 2014 internship placements. The Safety Net Project (SNP) is New York Citys advocate for economic justice, combining direct legal services, litigation, research, and policymaking to achieve economic justice for all New Yorkers. The Mental Health Project (MHP) is a team of attorneys, social workers and non-attorney advocates dedicated to enforcing the rights of low-income New Yorkers with mental illness. The Veteran Advocacy Project (VAP) provides free legal services to low-income veterans, with a focus on those living with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and substance abuse problems. In addition to representation in VA claims and civil matters, it advocates for regulatory changes at the national level to improve the lives of disabled veterans of all generations. The Domestic Violence Project (DVP) advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence through litigation; with City, State and law enforcement agencies; through policy initiatives, and community education and outreach events. Together, we offer internship experiences to law and social work students, enabling them to advocate for social justice while developing the skills they need to compete in the workforce. This event will include: Networking opportunities for persons from all diverse communities, including networking with Attorneys and Supervisors who are People of Color and/or LGBTQ. Opportunities to learn more about the Urban Justice Centers other projects, including the Community Development Project, Sex Workers Project, Street Vendors Project, Human Rights Project, Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project, Peter Cicchino Youth Project, and Police Reform Organizing Project.

Students should bring resumes and cover letter(s) indicating interest in particular project.
