Exercise 12 (Final exam 2010) Let T be a linear operator on a finite-dimensional vector space V.

A subspace W of V is said to be T-invariant if T(w) W for every w W. When a subspace W is Tinvariant then we may restrict T to get a linear operator : W W. (This just means using exactly the same T as before but only evaluating it on vectors from the subset W of the domain.) Below, W denotes a T-invariant subspace.
