I watched and analysed documentaries made in previous years at college. Whilst conducting this research I gathered a range of ideas of ways in which we could use, develop and challenge conventions of documentaries for example: using handheld camera to portray realism, using rule of thirds in the interviews and vox pops and creating our own music to enhance our desired atmosphere. Watching these documentaries also showed me what I needed to be careful of and consider whilst filming and editing lighting, exposure, composition, location, use of sound, correct spelling of text on screen, using a range of transitions to add interest and appeal, narrative structure, smooth editing, appropriate titles and credits, choice of facts used, choice of music, sound levels appropriate etc as it was easy to notice the negatives and what elements had not been perfected and improved.
