A level Qualitative (OCR) G483

All OCR, AS & A2, Qualitative papers take the same form. (All of this information is given to you in the Practical Skills Handbook) 1. You will get 2 marks for setting the equipment up correctly and taking at least 6 different readings 2. You will get 2 marks for describing a method that ensures accurate measurements (a method that reduces errors either in measurements or the way equipment is set up use of set square, fiducial points or other method to reduce parallax) (Practice adding an eye to your diagrams to clearly demonstrate the above) 3. There is a further mark for using a full range of values (think carefully about this) 4. There are two more marks for repeating your readings, finding an average, plotting a graph of the data and drawing a line of best fit. 5. The final three marks are awarded for your discussion of the findings, in other words the relationship between the two variables. The idea is to test your knowledge and understanding of the physics behind the experiment: It is common to start with a qualitative observation of the graph (not just bigger / bigger but a much clearer description of the change in y with changing x). There may be several observations to record. Reasons for any change should be discussed fully using scientific ideas. Finally include details of the science that might justify any observation made

Please think before you write anything, lay everything out carefully and dont miss steps out. Where possible try not to write bald answers (answers without calculations). Revised Nov 2012
