Sam Friedmann
Junior, Nursing Major
I have always loved helping people and after earning my EMT Basic certification the summer before I came to Wright State, I realized how much I loved working with patients one-on-one. Nursing was definitely my calling! All nursing students go through a series of clinicals which allow you to try specific areas of nursing. During my first semester I travelled to two off site clinicals at a nursing home. This Spring semester I'll have a clinical every week in an assisted living facility and next Fall semester I'll be placed in a hospital. Its always great to gain experience during the clinical rotation, but when I need to practice my skills I dont have to travel far! Wright State has a mock hospital located on campus. It has a large room set up with multiple beds with simulation patients, curtain dividers, and equipment you would find in a real hospital. There are also a dozen assessment rooms. In these rooms, you work with a fellow nursing student and practice the assessments you study in lecture. After graduation I plan on applying to a traveling nurse program which connects interested applicants to locations around the world in need of nurses. Eventually I would like to pursue my masters degree in nursing.
