Book Marks: 'The AIDS Book,' by Louise Hay

December 2, 1988
Lambda Rising Book Report (12/88-1/89) Vol. 1, No. 8, P. 15 (Guilliams, Holistic health guru Louise Hay was one of the first writers to flouish in the category of books that take spiritual and metaphysical approaches to dealing with AIDS, writes reviewer Will Guilliams. Her latest book, "The AIDS Book: Creating a Positive Approach," is an application of her self-healing philosophy to living with the disease. Hays first came to the attention of people working with AIDS through a 1983 videotape, "AIDS: A Positive Approach." The new book will not sit well with readers who have little exposure to spiritual answers to a physical disease. However, her approach has valuable suggestions for improving one's physical and emotional health. Hays encourages the reader to eliminate the fear and anxiety that she believes eventually makes one sick. Although some members of the gay community regard writers like Hay as opportunists profiting from fear, others feel hers is an idea whose time has come. Guilliams says that, even if it needs to create one itself, the community must explore every possible positive resource. See the topic on aegis.org
