Sholarin Type: Industrial & Economical Title: Added value obtained for using natural gas for production of petrochemicals Details Project Abstract Natural gas (NG) is a clean source of energy also used as feedstock for production of many valuable petrochemical products.NG is first treated for the removal of contaminants and water before being fractionated to its components. Ethane is the largest component after methane in natural gas and is usually separated and recovered in the deetahnizer. Ethane is cracked at high temperatures to produce ethylene the building block utilized for production of many petrochemicals .Ethylene is the raw material for production of high density polyethylene (HDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene glycols (EG) which have various domestic and industrial applications. This research project involves development of a flow scheme for production of these petrochemicals starting from NG and then an economical evaluation for the added value obtained. Specific tasks for 411: Lit Review Process configuration Products applications Specific tasks for 412: The value added from using natural gas to produce petrochemicals Economical evaluation of an integrated production facility.
