O Major competitor: BSES, a Reliance group company O Joint Action Committee formed consisting of members

from 2 unions- DSEWU and DSEEU


O JAC signed the Tripartite Takeover Agreement after the

acquisition of DVB

Introduction to DVB
O Before its takeover, DVB was hugely loss making
O As a result, Delhi Government has to subsidize DVB

upto Rs. 1500 crore per year


O High corruption, employees enjoyed immunity for

their partaking in power thefts in association with industrialists and politicians


O Frequent power breakdowns and poor customer

service
O DVB built temples inside its premises to prevent

vandalism by the angry public

Objectives post-acquisition
O Improving power situation, stopping thefts, enhancing

customer satisfaction
O Bringing DVB employees under the core values of NDPL O Vision: Becoming the most preferred and admired

energy company

O Under the Tripartite Agreement, had to reduce losses

from 53% to 20% by June 2007


O Articulated HR strategy for this purpose: performance

management, need-based training, innovative welfare measures, role clarity, grievance redressal emchanisms, HRIS, Joint Information Forum

DVB (Pre-takeover) Medical claim reimbursed after payment Janata Insurance Scheme of Rs. 1 lac, premium paid by employees No forum for interaction between employees & management TBPS allowed after considerable lapse of time, many pending cases Bad working conditions, no hygiene NDPL (2005) Card system: No payment required Insurance for Rs 2.5 lac at companys cost JIF at district & circle level, monthly meetings held TBPS cases were updated, no pending cases Proper hygiene and maintenance, renovation of buldings
