Course Outline
1. Introduction to chemical engineering thermodynamics 2. Review of basic thermodynamic definitions 3. First law of thermodynamics 4. Second law of thermodynamics 5. Volumetric properties of pure fluids 6. Heat effects 7. Thermodynamic properties of fluids 8. Thermodynamics of flow processes 9. Production of power from heat 10. Refrigeration and liquefaction 11. Exergy 12. Solution thermodynamics 13. Vapor-liquid equilibria 14. Chemical reaction equilibria Assignments: Since the course material is best learned through solving practice problems, the assignments are required to be handed in by due date, after which time solutions to the assignments will be posted. Overdue assignments will be penalized at a rate of 10% per day, and no overdue assignments will be graded after the solutions are posted. Midterm and final: Closed book exams. However, 1 ref sheet (single-sided) is allowed for midterm, and 2 ref sheets (single-sided) are allowed for final. Grading: Assignments 15%, midterm 35%, and final exam 50%
