Next week our reading story is A Talk With An Astronaut. It is a story told in question and answer format. The reading skill for next week is authors purpose. We will review the purposes that authors right for and apply the skill to our reading.

Grammar Next week we will work on using demonstrative adjectives (this, that, these, those).

Writing We are in the final stretch of our state reports. Stu-

dents are in the process of finishing up typing their reports and then creating a brief powerpoint presentation based off of their report. Reports and powerpoints will be due next Friday, March 14. Students may (and are encouraged) to work on their reports/ powerpoints at home if they need the additional time to work.

Spelling Next weeks words all have Greek word parts. Please
ensure your child is taking time to study these words at home. There is very little time to practice throughout the day. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! www.spellingcity.com/triton5

Social Studies This week we continued reading about the be-

ginning events leading up to the Revolutionary war including the Second Continental Congress and the battle of Bunker Hill. We have been intermittently been watching episodes of Libertys Kids that coincide with our lessons. If you have never seen this series, you must check it out. You can watch full episodes on YouTube.

Science Miss Bickel reviewed with the class about what types of

Instructions

Note From the Teacher: Next week your child will be taking the applied skills portion of the ISTEP+ test. They will be assessed in Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Writing. This portion, as opposed to the multiple choice portion, seems to be more mentally draining. Here are a few things you can do at home to help prepare your child for this high-stakes test. 1. Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before. 2. Ensure your child eats a good breakfast the morning of the test. 3. Give lots of encouragement prior to each test and remind them to do their best. Students have been working hard all year. Its time now to demonstrate how much theyve learned.
