A village in West Bengal called Binodpur has put up notice boards at the entrances declaring that non-tribal people, specifically Hindus and Muslims, are not allowed to enter the village after 6pm. The notices were put up by the local tribal club as a means to protect the village's security, culture, and women from outsiders. However, local police officials note that some tribal villages are starting to defy the administration by creating their own rules.

Non-tribals not allowed to enter village after sunset
BOLPUR: If you are not a tribal, dont try to enter this village after 6 pm, screams a prominent notice board as one enters Binodpur, a village merely 14 km away from the district headquarters of Bolpur. Everyone is hereby informed that if you are a Hindu or Muslim dont enter Binodpur village after 6 pm, reads a yellow notice painted on a metal board right at the entrance to the village. The notice has been issued by a local club Binodpur Adibasi Sidhu Kanu Club Gaounta Committee, a body of the tribals. This village has proudly declared that it wants to protect itself from the onslaught of outsiders, or society at large. Binodpur has two roads that lead to the village. The same notice is displayed on both. We observe this rule in our village. Well not allow outsiders in our village in evening. This is for the sake of our security, and to protect our culture, said Phulmoni Soren, a homemaker and mother of three. Recently, a senior police official of the district told this correspondent, that there are increasing reports of some tribal villages trying to steer clear of the administration. Recently we have received intelligence reports that in several tribal villages mostly in Bolpur, Rampurhat and Suri sub-division, people have started creating their own rules defying the administration. We have already asked the concerned police stations to keep close vigil. On Friday afternoon, Hindustan Times visited the village to find out Binodpur is just like any other tribal village. It is a small village with about 30 houses. We want to protect our women, specially from people of other communities. To protect our girls from them and to save ourselves, we have put that notice board, said a member of Binodpur Adibasi Sidhu Kanu Club Gaounta Committee.
