Wado Ryu Obi

The Obi is a symbol of rank, which should always be treated with respect.

Rules regarding the Wado Ryu Obi (belt):


#1 Always rei (bow) to Yudansha (black belts) who are entering or leaving the dojo. Lower ranks show honor and respect for the time, effort, and knowledge invested in the Black Belt when bowing to an Yudansha. Head Instructors of any class are to be addressed Sensei rei when entering or leaving any dojo. Lower ranks always line up to the left of higher ranks. The lowest rank is White Belt. The first and lowest Kyu rank is Gold Belt with 1st Degree Brown Belt the highest Kyu rank. Lowest Dan rank is 1st Degree Black Belt with 8th Degree Black Belt the highest Dan rank. If same rank, line up with the one receiving the rank first. Never wear the obi outside the dojo. Exception if running out to car to retrieve an item for class, etc. Never wash the obi. Never let the obi touch the ground (if you are not wearing it). Never wear the obi without the Gi (Karate uniform). No embroidery on Kyu Rank Obi (Yellow-Brown). Only Gold embroidery on Black Belt Obi.
