NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization it is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty signed April 4,1949. Established three years after the Cold War It promotes democratic value and encourages consultation and on defense and security issues to build trust and prevent conflict. NATO is dedicated to the peaceful resolution of disagreements. If diplomatic efforts fail, it has the military capacity needed to undertake crisismanagement operations.

If any country that wasnt involved with NATO attacked a NATO country the whole organization would go to war for that country.

NATO effects on Cold War

Was formed as a cooperative mutual defense treaty against the threat of the soviet invasion. Effect NATO had on the cold war was to deter the Soviets from any attempts at invading western Europe. Reduced the number of troops the US had to keep in Europe to deter the Soviets.

The Warsaw pact was established on May 14, 1955. a mutual defense organization that put the Soviets in command of the armed forces of the member states The Warsaw Pact remained intact until 1991 Albania was expelled in 1962 because they thought that Russia was straying away from what they originally signed on for. Today, Albania is now a participant of NATO

Do we still need NATO today?

NATO and the United Nations (UN) share a commitment to maintaining international peace and security. The two organizations have been cooperating in this area since the early 1990s. It is necessary that we have both because not every country involved with NATO is involved with the UN and vice-versa
