Chapter 18: Understanding Style and Performance Practices Kenneth H. Phillips 2004
Chapter 18 involves the different styles and periods of classical music and the performance practices of each. To be an effective educator, it is essential that the teacher understand the history behind different musical styles and the specific performance practices of each. Knowing the different styles and being able to explain what makes them different is a great teaching tool for the choral classroom. The more the teacher is able to share with their students about the different styles, the more content the students will be able to grasp. Making sure to help emphasize certain style traits can also help to spice up pieces and provide more variety to a program.
