Performing Choral / Orchestral Works with the High School Chorus Paul K. Cappers

This article was extremely important to me, because I have almost no experience conducting or rehearsing and instrumental ensemble. In my own high school experience, the only instrumental ensemble we ever sang with was the show band, which was rehearsed separately. This meant that they could play for us, without having to be rehearsed during choral rehearsal time. This was a great article for discovering things to consider when performing with instrumental ensembles. Another portion of this article that was very interesting was the portion dealing with solos and how they can impact motivation within the choir. These are great tools to motivate students, but teachers must make sure that they use these as rewards for hard work, and do not let the competitive aspect of getting solos take over.
