Family Literacy Night


Our 2nd Annual Family Literacy Night is right around the corner on February 27th, 2014 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and were sure youll want to bring the entire family for some good, old-fashioned literacy fun. Need some new books? There will be a free book swap, where we encourage you and your children to clear out your bookshelves of books you no longer want and bring them in so you can replace them with books you havent read yet.

Box Tops for Education Its Box Tops submission time! Ill be sending in all the Box Tops weve collected by May 31, 2014. Our goal this year is to earn $500. We have collected $321.70 so far. We need 1,783 more box tops to meet our goal. The homeroom that brings in the most Box Tops will win an ice cream party. .

Virginia Readers Choice


In early fall, the Virginia Readers' Choice program chooses books that are recognized as noteworthy in the field of young adult literature . Students are encouraged to read four of the ten books and take Accelerated Reader quizzes to note their progress. Students who have successfully read four of the ten books are invited to a voting party held April 4th. Students who are able to read all 10 VRC books will be invited to the voting party and an ice cream party in the library. Our totals, along with other participating schools in Virginia, are tallied and the winners are announced in the spring. 2014 2015 Middle School Titles: Endangered by Eliot Schrefer

Blind date with a book


Tired of the usual romantic Valentines Day events? We are shaking things up! Starting in February, visit the library to go on a blind date with a book. Hopefully this program will inspire you to pick up something youve never thought of reading before because you are not aloud to unwrap you book until after leaving the library! We have hand-picked popular and highly recommended books and tucked them into some brown paper bags. These books are interesting, thought-provoking or fun. There is a quote from the book displayed on the outside. You will almost certainly be pleasantly surprised by what's inside! When you return the book, fill out the Rate Your Date form to let us know how you enjoyed your book.

PAW Stamp Rewards


Earn rewards with Berkeley Middle Schools Effective SchoolWide Discipline (ESD) Plan. The theme is P.A.W.S. Students can earn up to 35 stamps a month by demonstrating the behaviors listed below. Students can earn a monthly reward by earning a minimum of 25 stamps. Additionally, stamps can be used to shop in the monthly PAW Store.
