Justification Statement for the Idaho Teaching Standards This is an example of a Frequency Count that I created in my FCS 235,

Principles and Methods of Observing Child Development class. This Frequency Count demonstrates the types of play, such as, unoccupied, onlooker, solitary, parallel, associative, and cooperative, that the three children I observed engaged in. These examples can be later combined with other play observations to complete an overall assessment. This demonstrates how I meet Idaho Standards for Blended Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education Teachers: Standard 1: Knowledge of Subject Matter Knowledge 5: The educator understands the elements of play and how play assists children in learning.

Frequency Count Summary The data above provides the recorded tallies of each time the three children were observed to be engaged in six styles of play, these styles being, unoccupied, onlooker, solitary, parallel, associative, and cooperative play. G1 was observed to be engaged in parallel play the most during the fifty-minute observation interval, but always kept busy by also being engaged in onlooker, solitary, associative and cooperative play at one time or another during the observation. G1 never engaged in unoccupied play during the time of observation. B2 was observed to engage in associative and cooperative play the most where he engaged in each of these five times during the fifty minute observation interval. B2 never engaged in onlooker or parallel play during the observation interval. G3 engaged in every style of play through the fifty-minute interval. She engaged in solitary, associate, and cooperative play the most and unoccupied and parallel play the least.
