Enzyme: complex proteins that cause a specific chemical change in all parts of the body Coenzyme: a substance that works with an enzyme to initiate or aid the function of the enzyme, cannot function on their own Catalyze: to cause or accelerate a reaction Denature: to take away or alter natural qualities (by temp. or pH)

Competitive Inhibitor: a molecule that binds to the active site of an enzyme to prevent substrates from entering the active site Reaction Rate: how fast or slow a reaction takes place at Substrate: the molecule upon which an enzyme acts
