BANSAL INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, BHOPAL DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

EXPERIMENT ID NO 05
Aim: - Verification of Kirchhoffs Current Law (KCL) Apparatus Used:1. KCL trainer kit. Theory:Kirchhoffs Current Law (KCL): Kirchhoffs current law states that the algebraic sum of the all branch currents at a node is zero at all instants of time. This law is a consequence of conservation of charge, which enters the node, must leave the node since it cannot be stored there. Since the algebraic sum of the charge is zero. So its time derivative should also be zero. A node in a network is the point at which more than two branches are meeting. Mathematically, I1 + I2 = I3 + I4 Circuit Diagram:-

Procedure:1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Connect voltmeter & ammeter as per diagram. Connect supply to input terminal. Switch ON the power supply. Connect the ammeter in series with resistance R1 & R2 as shown in the fig. (a) measure the current I1. Now make the connection as shown in fig. (b) connect the ammeter in series with resistance R3 & R4 as shown in the figure measure the current I2. Make the connection as shown in fig. (c). connect the ammeter in series and measure the current I3. Tabulate the value of current I1, I2, and I3. Verify the result by substituting the value of I1, I2 & I3 in equation (I1+I2+I3 = 0).

Observation Table:S.NO 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Vs I1 I2 I3

Calculation: Take the reading and verify the equation (I1+I2+I3 = 0) for each reading. Here, current entering is taken as (+ve) and current leaving is taken as (-ve) Result:Theoretical & observed values are same then the theorem is verified.
