with Nazarbayev Intellectual School

As an IB candidate school aiming to offering the programmes of the International Baccalaureate, Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Astana is increasingly participating in a network of dynamic institutions a network of 3,353 schools in 141 countries united by a common vision for international standards in education. Under the guidance of the International Baccalaureate Organsation, this network uses a range of resources, events and technologies to link teachers and school leaders in order that they might gain from each other's experience and share projects, materials and initiatives. Being connected to this global network of institutions enables Nazarbayev Intellectual School teachers and pupils to test and validate their standards of excellence as world-class.

Leadership team exchanges

Our leadership team have been seconded to a number of international schools, including ones in Switzerland, Singapore and the United States. In addition our teachers have been on exchanges with schools as far apart as Red Cross College, Norway, and Atlantic College, United Kingdom.

Teacher exchange
This is one of the areas for co-operation that holds greatest interest for us. Teacher exchanges give teachers the opportunity to experience different teaching and methodological cultures, and pick up in situ the best of international best practice and effective, innovative teaching methods and techniques. Both parties gain from such experiences.

Pupil exchange
Pupils exchanges have the potential to have a major formative influence on a students outlook on life and the world, and help him connect with other cultures, and give him or her an idea of global issues and cultural differences. We would be delighted to host and have hosted your students and ours. If this is an area that is of interest to you, again please be in touch.

Information/documentation exchange
While part of the documentation produced by a school or a school system is confidential, private, or the intellectual property of the teacher who created it, much information can be productively

Mutual translation/interpretation support

With full complements of native English, Russian and Kazakh teachers the school would be interested in exploring the possibility of one-for-one documentation translation or exchange of teachers qualified or experienced as interpreters. Our principal need at present is for English native language speakers for proofing, simply because of the quantity of documentation produced in English by speakers of other languages, but very occasionally, we also require documents to be translated into other languages. It would be good for such circumstances to have identified potential translators in advance.

Learning materials exchange (including the library)

The school would be willing to swap learning materials, including posters, files, powerpoints, books and so on with its partners. As far as books are concerned, we intend to create a list of current resources available for exchange in return for English language materials, such as books, CDs, and so on

Consultancies for specialists from well-established IB schools

Have you worked for a number of years in the IB system? Perhaps you would be interested in taking up a consultancy with our school, either remotely or here in Kazakhstan, temporarily or permanently. If so, please feel free to send through a copy of your CV explaining a little bit about your background and how we might be of assistance.

Summer schools
Every year, Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools offer summer schools in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. The summer schools, since they very much have a separate curriculum provide an excellent opportunity for our international partners to get involved. Examples of opportunities for co-operation include pupil and teacher exchanges, or linked courses with video-linked lessons.

Year-long placement to provide native language speaker support

Our administrative departments also require support from native English speakers, to the extent that we would be interested in the possibility of hiring native language English speakers with a higher education, and ideally a background in HR, finance, law or education, to join the team for a year and head-up the proof reading of documentation and a range of contacts with overseas partners.

Visiting sports teams

Our sports department is able to host visiting sports teams and would be delighted to have the opportunity to discuss with you the various possibilities, including participation in Kazakhstan national and local competitions, or organising a tour.

Visiting Olympiad teams

Nazarbayev Intellectual School participates in or organises a range of school level, city-wide, regional, national, continental and international Olympiad competitions. Opportunities for partnership include mutual support for Olympiad preparation, organisation, and travel and accommodation arrangements.

Support for field trips to Kazakhstan, e.g. for biology project

If your school would be interesting in coming on a field trip to Kazakhstan, whether to see Baikonur, the Aral Sea or the beautiful rolling steppe, complete with its fascinating array of flora and fauna, then we would be interested in hosting your staff and students in return for help and co-operation in other areas, or a return field trip.

Sister schools
The closest form of co-operation that Nazarbayev Intellectual School exists with Nazarbayev Intellectual School is that developed through sister school status. All of the above projects, may be expected to form part of a sister schools program, but in addition to this there could be many other more informal connections, bonds and links between the staff, teachers and students of the two institutions, which, it is our hope, would extend beyond the working day and the eleven years of education.
