Making the livelihood of the fisher folks viable and sustainable

Target Beneficiaries: Marginalized Fisher Folks

Target areas: Coastal Municipalities

Objective: To assist the fisher folks in making their existing livelihood undertakings grow into viable and sustainable businesses, thus, improving their income to a level at par with that of the minimum wage earners.

Setting up of a common marketing facility that will provide resources for the establishment of a common auction market. Income to be generated will be used as payments for social protection contributions of the beneficiaries. Acquisition of fishing materials and equipment that will provide production resources like fishing boats, and/or fishing gears such as fish nets, fish hooks and lines, and other fishing paraphernalia.

Establishment of alternative livelihood projects that will generate employment and income for the dependents of the fisher folks. Strengthening of fisher folks organizations and consolidating these into a federation through trainings, consultancy and advisory services. Conduct of trainings on entrepreneurship and business management for the members of the fisher folks organizations.

Shoulder the cost of: Materials and equipment for the establishment of common marketing facility, Acquisition of fishing boats, and/or fishing gears such as fish nets, fish hooks and lines, and other fishing paraphernalia, and Establishment of alternative livelihood projects; Provide the services for strengthening/consolidation of fisher folks organizations and members trainings on entrepreneurship and business management.

Monitor the progress of implementation of the project.

Provide the land and structure for the auction market. Provide trainings on alternative livelihood projects.
