Unit Plan Philosophy My philosophy of music education is to educate students to appreciate instrumental music, to nurture a lifelong commitment to practicing and participating in music activities, and to teach students the importance of music in society. This plan reflects my philosophy because it incorporates an introduction to the foundational rhythms that would be found in a typical ensemble playing in a 3/4 time signature, connects students to the feel of 3/4 time in music, and shows why 3/4 time is important in a musical ensemble. Specific objectives for unit Students will be able to: identify 3/4 time signature by sight identify 3/4 time signature by sound execute musical rhythms in 3/4 time signature while in an ensemble setting and alone List of musical contexts How I will teach the objectives: Students will work through musical lines in the textbook as a class lines in the red book in a 3/4 time signature: 69 pg 17 76 pg 18 80 pg 19 82 pg 19 85 pg 22 94 pg 23 Students will listen to 3/4 time signature various youtube videos will be played on a daily basis to demonstrate what 3/4 time signature looks and/or sounds like quality recordings of professional musicians playing music in 3/4 time signature to hear how it works Students will feel 3/4 time signature students will be taught body movements to accompany 3/4 time signature and do these movements along with musical recordings ball bounce game: students will be taught three different types of bouncing a ball that coincide with a rhythm in the 3/4 time signature students will execute these movements to a recording in 3/4 time signature
