Alberta Assessment Consortium The Alberta Assessment Consortium is a great resource for a new teacher.

This graphic in particular helps teachers assess their own assessment methods, and encourage a lot of thought and intentionality in the way that teachers practice. This graphic helps us to consider important questions such as "What choices will be provided for students to demonstrate their learning?" and suggests that teachers "Develop shared understanding with students" (Alberta Assessment Consortium, 2012). Valid assessment is extremely important, and making sure that the students have a solid understanding of what they are being asked to do as well as how they will be graded is important to a more true assessment of learning. In my experience, students are often left feeling detached from the process of evaluation when they should be the centre of this process. This model also encourages formative assessment, and giving students opportunities to grow as well as informing teaching practice. This student-centered focus is one that inspires me and one that is backed by a body of research.
