color fixation of oil, the continuous solvent extraction on the other hand, does not cause any harm to the oil which is recovered with the same characteristics as were present in the oil bearing material.
Manufacturing Process
Indeed the outstanding and rich advantages of continuous solvent extraction are such that it has become and viable factor in determining the survival of the vegetable oil industry in many parts of the world.
Preparatory section
Preparation of oil bearing material prior to its extraction is often under estimated by many processors. To achieve the best results in solvent extraction, the way in which raw material is prepared is almost as important as extraction equipment itself. The feed stock should have a particle size small enough to enable the solvent to reach right upto the core but at the same time not so small as to constitute fines should have fairly uniform particle size in order to pack well in the extracted and form a homogenous bed and should posses good percolation characteristics. To big pieces in the feed results in high residual oil content in the meal and the solvent may not be able to penetrate to the core. And too small particles or fines will lead to poor percolation and channeling effect, thus resulting in poor performance of the plant.

further provided with the special switches for high level and low level indication transmit and audio visual signal to preparatory section for preparatory operator to take corrective measures. The extractor is long horizontal vessels, rectangular in cross section in M.S construction. An articulated band conveyor inside the Extractor receives the material from feed hopper and transports it at predetermined speed from the feed end to discharge end. The band conveyor moves over rails suitably located inside the extractor and rides on specially constructed sprockets at either end. The speed of the band conveyor is easily adjustable with desired limits. An adjustable damper enables the regulation of height of bed of material on band conveyor. The series of sprayers located above the band conveyor enables perfect spray of the solvent on the moving bed. A special spray breaker facilitates uniform distributions of solvent over the entire width of moving bed. Each spraying section id followed by a draining section. Fresh solvent is admitted in to the extractor near the discharge end of the moving bed of material and full of miscella is recovered from the initial stage thus ensuring the perfect counter current flow of material and the solvent. It is not merely a simple counter current flow. The micella circulates in a closed circuit in each of the successive section by overflowing from each hopper of the extractor after increasing gradually its oil content in each hopper. So in each section there is equilibrium between the oil extracted from the seed in corresponding section and difference in oil content of solvent overflowing the preceding hopper together with the solvent overflowing the following section.
Distillation group
The miscella from the miscella tank is pumped through vapour economizer to first evaporator. The economizer unit is specially designed in order to effectively utilize the heat of vapour emerging from the desolventising toaster. The vapour from D.T enter into the and dissipate heat to the incoming miscella from.
Desolventising
The material containing approximately 30% hexane is transferred to Desolventiser Toaster (70), through a solvent tight chain conveyor, the DT is dual purpose equipment which ensures perfect desolventization of extraction meal and simultaneously the meal is toasted in order to reduce the undesirable enzyme activity while increasing the protein digestibility (PD) and reducing the urease activity to less than 0.2%. Since the DT mainly utilizes the latent heat of steam, there is a sizable reduction in steam consumption as compared to conventional horizontal drier system. The DT comprises of several compartments and each compartment is provided by scrapper blades and level control system. Open steam is sparged in to the material through main shaft as well as through the double bottom to effectively utilize its latent heat for desolventization of material in DT.

Recuperation group
The uncondensed gases from water cooled condensers after passing through the contact cooler are allowed to the pass through the fine spray of cold mineral oil which absorbs the traces if hexane vapour, which otherwise would escape to atmosphere through vent ejector. The hexane vapours thus absorbs are recovered by heating the oil by absorber heater and the flashed off vapours are again condensed in the water cooled condenser in order to reuse the hot mineral oil, it is made to pass through the water cooler and then through the chilled water cooler for obtaining the cold mineral oil for respraying and absorption of next hexane vapours.
Preparatory section for Soyabean The standard process adopted for the preparation of Soyabean as follows
The seed are either stored in silos and stacked gunny bags. The seeds are enter in to preparatory section through and elevator, which feeds the seed to feed cleaning section here the impurities oversize and undersize that of Soyabean are removed. Impurities which are lighter than Soyabean can be removed if high protein meal is to be prepared for human consumption. This is done by pneumatic aspirations in seed cleaning section. The clean seeds are further passed through de-stoner where the stones of size of Soyabean are removed by fluidized aspiration system. The cleaned and destined seed is then passed through a roller mill having corrugations so that the seed is reduced to pieces of size of 3mm. The cleaned, destined and cracked seed is then fed to a cooker where the seed pieces are cooked to increase the fluidity of the oil cells. The cooked Soyabean thus obtained is then passed through the flakers where the seed pieces are converted into thin flakes of thickness 0.25 to 0.30mm. This operation raptures the oil cells and helps in direct contact with solvent in the extractor. The De-oiling results depend on the proper preparation of seeds and above process have to be strictly followed to get good results.
