Agarwood-Oudh formulation Agarwood oil is obtained by steam distillation of wood pieces of the fungus infected species of Aquillaria Agallocha.

The black variety of the wood gives the best quality of the oil. It grows in Assam forest of India,Cambodia,Taiwan,Vietnam,etc. Agarwood oil has a complex woody,ambery,oilbanum type of odour. It is highly appreciated by perfumers all over the world. But, due to its scarcity & increasing demand ,its prices shot upto $14000-18000 per kg of Indian variety oil. The oil from Cambodia & Taiwan is not comparable to Indian variety,hence it is cheaper. Using original oil in the perfume formulations even at 1% is adding heavy cost to the formulations . Many attempts are being carried-out to find-out a cheaper substitute for Agarwood oil in the form of a formulation using known and cheaper aroma ingredients.

The following is one of such formulations which is olfactorilly very close to original oil,and the cost will be $ 40-50 per kg. This blend can be used as a direct substitute for original oil.

The perfumers may vary the proportions of the ingredients within the specified range to get the exact feeling of the Agarwood oi Sandalwood oil substitute Due to the scarcity and increasing demand of Sandalwood oil, It's price is gone up to $1200-1700 per kilogram. Hence, it is too expensive to use in fragrance formulations. Any fragrance formulation is incomplete without a sandalwood note, thus the sandalwood note is indispensable in fragrance formulations. There are many aroma chemicals available in the market, ranging from $7 to $500 per kilogram, which are found to have some characteristics of Sandalwood oil. But the note or the aroma of the oil cannot be replaced by a single aroma chemical. Using these aroma chemicals we can create formulations similar to the aroma of Sandalwood oil. These formulations are used in fine fragrances, soaps, detergents, toiletries and skin care products. Using these chemicals we have developed a versatile formulation which has all the characteristic notes of sandalwood oil. This formulation costs about $20 per kilo gram.
