The Courage of Writing in Little Women "There is more to you than this, if you have the courage to write

it." - Frederick to Jo Everyone has a fear of rejection. Some people have the fear so adly that they !on"t step out and take the risk. #rt and ideas are all personal$ so to share these is to make one"s self vulnera le to rejection y others$ or more importantly$ to the people sought to please. Writing and sharing ideas pave the !ay for others in thinking and feeling. %eaders and o servers !ho open up to these shared ideas feel they"re not alone$ or are challenged$ in their thinking$ !hich can inspire change on a !ider scale. & think this is !hat Frederick means !hen he challenges Jo to e courageous y e'pressing herself. #lso$ the title of the story and the content are meant to e o'ymoronic (& hope & am e'pressing this clearly). &n the time in history that the story is set$ !omen !ere thought to e of much lesser influence and thinking than men. Throughout the story !e see the !omen of Jo"s family struggle$ overcome$ and e'cel despite their hardships and societal roles. We also see that each sister !ho falls in love is accepted and loved in return for the for!ard thinking individuals that they are* the eldest sister marries a poor$ ut intelligent teacher$ the youngest marries and !ealthy and long-time family friend !ho cannot find interest in the ack!ard thinking !omen outside the +arch family$ and Jo falls in love !ith a European professor !ho inspires her (possi ly suggesting a need for influence y the ,transcendentalist, Europeans). &n the end !e see that there is nothing ,little, a out the !omen of this family. This is a eautiful story$ and the movie is just as inspiring. & appreciate Frederick"s -uote a out courage in e'pression. This is even relevant to all thinkers of today. There are still attles to e !on for individuality$ e-uality$ and e'pression of ideas. #ny one person can start ,little,$ ut !ith some courage and the right approach$ that same person can inspire positive change on a larger scale.
